My story of becoming a vegetarian

 Hi,

Today I thought I would share my experience of going vegetarian. I have been a vegetarian for 3 and a half years. My main reason for becoming a vegetarian was ethical, because of animals' welfare but I also have experienced many health benefits as well.

I decided that I wanted to become a vegetarian. I had just completed my A-Levels and had lots of time to research new dinners and prepare meals. I went on holiday for 2 weeks and I had an amazing time not worrying about anything. When I came back I picked my 3 favourite dinners which I cannot even remember what they are now, 3 years on.

The next day I just cut out all meat. Me and my mum did lots of experiments with cooking which is why I think it worked really well, it being the summer holidays and us having lots of time to prepare meals.

For the first few weeks it was difficult to find new things to eat. However after about a month, I was feeling a lot better in myself, I used to have a lot of digestive issues that seem to be better.

I had just started university and this was when I first noticed the other benefits from my decision to go vegetarian. It may seem like a shock to some but I never considered the health benefits from a meat free diet. However I noticed in just one and a half months I had dropped two sizes from size 18 to 14. Even my rings were too big for me.  I felt so much better in myself. I had more energy.

I had found some delicious dinners to cook and I was feeling so much better.

The two pictures are not the best but I felt so much better by December.

After being vegetarian for nearly 4 years, I have never been healthier, my diet is the best it has ever been. I feel better and have more energy. I love being vegetarian and there are many recipes I love cooking. One of my favourites is my cheese pasta, the recipe can be found here. The only time I ever miss eating meat is at Christmas, but since other members of my family went vegetarian I don't feel so left out anymore.

I never thought I would be able to wear size 14 skinny jeans. I feel so much better. I am really glad I made the decision to become vegetarian.
